Metaverse: Towards an Infinite Office and Collaborative Teams

by | Dec 1, 2021 | The Future Of Work

We communicate and collaborate with our colleagues online. This fast exchange of information made a difference when we worked remotely with our teams.

Now, virtual reality (VR) will not only be for online gaming like Roblox, Minecraft, or Fortnite. Instead, it transformed into a business tool to collaborate with a more realistic user experience.

Indeed, tech companies have been in a tight race to create the metaverse, which translates to “Beyond Universe.” As a result, it’s predicted that more than 23 million jobs will benefit from this VR platform in the next decade.

In the past couple of years, Zoom, Google Meet, and others transformed the landscape of how we do work. They help us see the benefits of a work-from-anywhere setup.

The metaverse is a game-changer. It’s often described as the next version of the internet.

Facebook claims that it will create a new workspace they call the “infinite office” that will reshape the digital economy too.

Metaverse and The Future of Work

In definition, a metaverse is a shared virtual space that is persistently online and active. Hence, the term “infinite office” since your colleagues will share the same “virtual world” that serves as your workspace.

It started when Facebook Connect created a virtual workspace and the Oculus VR headset for Horizon Workrooms. These tools allow users to share collaborative virtual worlds to socialize and work together on projects.

Furthermore, Horizon Workrooms allow users to create an avatar, brainstorm on a whiteboard, share music via streaming, and schedule a virtual conference via VR.

A metaverse is a virtual option for jobs and services that require in-person interaction. Hence, remote work will expand worldwide.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg described this experience as “embodied internet,” where users are inside the virtual room rather than just looking at it on a screen.

During the Connect conference last month, Zuckerberg said that with Metaverse, you’d be able to do almost anything you can imagine, like get together with friends and family, work, learn, play, shop, and create.

Travis Scott held a VR concert attended by 12 million Fortnite virtual users as an example of its capabilities. Most of these attendees felt as if they were watching an actual live performance via VR.

Moreover, Eric Yuan, CEO of Zoom, believes that Altered Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) will play a significant role in the future of work.

How Metaverse Redefines Remote Work?

Is it possible that Metaverse is the future of work? Yes! This VR technology by wearing smart glasses can help you see notifications like emails, messages, etc. Moreover, you interact with the team in the same virtual space just like in the good old days when we see each other in the pantry area and have a chat.

Imagine the scenes from the movie Ironman, when a voice assistant with artificial intelligence can power on or turn off devices, search for documents and give real-time stats on the progress of your work.

You don’t need to get dressed for a meeting like in Zoom, Google Meet, etc. You just have to log in to Metaverse, and your avatar will represent you in a virtual workspace equipped with everything you need. You can also record your instructions with a hologram image for those who cannot attend the virtual meeting.

Metaverse will soon enter the market. These virtual environments are in the production phase now. The future is promising, isn’t it? All we need is a pair of VR glasses, and we can together achieve our goals.
